Question about replacing condensators of Braun L710's

#1 Beitrag von megaptera » 21.12.2012, 09:27

I am planning to replace the condensators of my L710's. But my knowledge of elektrotechnik is very limited..
I already did that once with my Dynaco A25's with great results. Only then it was simple: just one 4.7 UF to replace.

Looking at the schematics and a photo of the board i am a bit confused which condensators actually would need replacement in order to achieve improvement in sound.

Can anyone tell which condensators i can replace? Perhaps any specific condensators i should buy?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers,

Yves

Hi Yves,

What is your intension to do with the L710 Crossover? What kind of improvement you are looking for? Changing Capicitors without detailed knowledge about the complexety of a second order crossover network of a three way speaker system lead into unwanted acoustic impacts.

Your Dynaco A25's are completely different animals though. They area sort of early 70th two way transmissionline speakers. The incorporated crossover is only a single order Highpass which naturally consist of one capicitor. You might be able to improve the acoustic quality a bit by replacing this single capicitor by better quality.

The L710 crossover network however is much more complex. Braun already choose carefully selected elctronic components for its crossover section. Replacements of capicitors are therfore not regarded as a recommended option for acoustic improvements unless something is out of order.

Best regards,

Jens

Hi Jens,

Thanks again for your input! I bought the pair second hand, they sounded good, but a little bit shut in. Right now they sound absolutely fantastic! Strange..but just a little bit of playing music really woke them up! They were problaby stored for a long time..
The L710's from my memory are just better than the Dynaco a25's, and they sound at least as good as my previous L1030

Kind regards,

Yves
